This Alpine style frame house is nestled on a south east facing bush block on the edge of the Great Dividing Range in Toowoomba. The home is designed to settle amongst the filtered light of the surrounding towering gums with protection from strong easterly winds and views of the valley below.
The precisely detailed steel frame is expressed both internally and externally. This maximises opportunities for glazing to capture views and solidly connects the interior with the spaces outside and landscape beyond.
The steep pitched, solid, folded roof plane shelters the frame below and the rooms have been arranged to make best use of the varying volumes it creates, from grand, soaring entertaining to cosy, everyday living. Roof windows admits filtered light into the interior similar to that experienced under the tree canopy beyond.
