Our clients, a busy professional couple, purchased a 1970s brick home and wished to modernise and update before moving in.
The project brief was to create a light filled, calming space which provides an effortless transition into relaxation after returning home from long work days and travel. The clients sought for design to be in harmony with the surrounding landscape and to evoke an overall feeling of tranquility in the home. Also requested easy connectivity between the kitchen, living areas and a north facing entertaining deck.
This was achieved with the reconfiguring of internal spaces and utilisation of clerestory windows to provide natural light and connect to outdoors. Recessed lighting was installed in the kitchen to accent the clean lines of joinery design. Natural materials such as timber and stone were used throughout the renovation for connection to the Earth. A neutral colour scheme was chosen and a fireplace was installed to add warmth and atmosphere. Furniture layout is uncluttered and decorations are kept to a minimum to provide the calming spirit of a Zen Abode.
